Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 became the new default flagship chip for Android phones, however the company has also confirmed something like that for midrange smartphone.
The new Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 is built on the same 4nm technology as the Snapdragon 7 series and has multiple firsts.
The CPU has been based on the a Kyro core cluster running at 2.4GHz and the GPU is Adreno 662. According to Qualcomm, that newer GPU is 20% faster than its predecessor, the Snapdragon 778G, and AI operations are 30% better than before.
Qualcomm’s Adreno Frame Motion Engine alleged to double the fps in games at the same energy consumption as the Snapdragon 778G. The new chip has assistance for up to 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM.
The SD7G1 also gets the X62 5G modem which boasts up to 4.4 Gbps internet speeds with dual standby 5G connectivity on standalone and non-standalone mechanisms. This has assistance for Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 with Snapdragon Sound and aptX.
The Spectra triple ISP includes support for up to 200MP images, which is a first for a Snapdragon 7 family. There are also capability for 4K HDR video recording and 10-bit HEIC image capture with HEVC. The Recognized Management Engine for protection is another first.
A first Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 devices are arriving within only a few weeks from a broad range of OEMs. When it’s revealed in 23 May, the Oppo Reno 8 Pro will be the first phone to use it.
